Fitness is one, if not the most popular industry for subscription-based networks right now. The recent pandemic created a vested interest in online fitness coaching for consumers. As a result, fitness subscribers have become comfortable working out at home, in their own time and space.

But with this comfort comes demand, too. Consumers expect high-quality virtual fitness classes via subscriptions (more commonly known as SVOD – subscription video on demand).

Now, fitness coaches around the globe have to be able to create and run their fitness business online and maintain a high level of content creation and client satisfaction.

In this post, we’ll share some tricks of the trade when it comes to content strategies for fitness coaches, as well as some topic ideas for your upcoming content creation plans.

Rules for Fitness CoachRules for Fitness Coach Content Creation

Before we get into some key content strategies for fitness gurus, there are a few rules of thumb you should adhere to when creating content for your members:

  • Be clear as day: Make sure that anything you’re sharing, teaching, and communicating is clear to your clients. You don’t want to cause any confusion or create hype because your content doesn’t make sense or doesn’t have a clear path. Try to follow a step-by-step progressive style when writing a post or making a video. Another good way of being clear is to recap at the end of the content piece with some key takeaways for your subscribers.
  • Stay within your niche: People trust coaches who are true to their niche, so use this in your content. Consumers subscribe to you because you specialize in something different from other fitness coaches, such as Aerial Pilates. It’s different, and they’re interested in it – so give them information about your niche, not just general fitness information.
  • Do your homework: Take the time to understand what other fitness coaches are talking about. Another place that’s good to spend time is online fitness communities. This will help you understand what consumers are interested in, and it may spark a few content topic ideas for your next video or blog. If you have an online fitness coaching platform, use the reporting and analytics feature to understand which content your members are most and least interested in, then create content based on this data.

Content Strategies

Content Strategies for Fitness Coaches

#1: Build Content Pillars

Break down your knowledge into between four and five content pillars. Think of a content pillar as an area in your fitness business that your ideal client would be interested in. Pillars can also be something your clients should be engrossed in to help them get the results they want from your fitness program

Here’s an example of a few content pillars for a fitness coach:

  • Nutrition
  • Transformation
  • Mindset
  • Habits

#2: Repurpose Content for Various Formats

Ask yourself, ‘How many videos, blog posts, and Instagram posts do I see before I commit to a brand?’ That number is probably quite high – and it makes sense. In today’s world, people are submerged in so much content from so many brands that if you want to get their attention, you have to put a lot out there, and often. So, how do you do it?

Repurpose what you have! For example, if you have a video about nutrition tips and weekly meal planning, recreate that video as a blog post. This can be posted with a caption on Instagram and linked to your full blog post. Then, share it as an Instagram story, Facebook story, and Facebook post. You can even put it on Tik-Tok, or fitness forums.

Suddenly, one video becomes eight or nine pieces of content, reaching more people interested in your niche across several platforms. It’s a win-win situation, and it saves you a ton of time.

Re-engineer Your Content #3: Re-engineer Your Content

If you’ve been in the fitness coaching business for a while, you’ll know that running out of content ideas is quite an issue. But old content isn’t tainted or boring. Old content can be re-engineered and reused if it’s done cleverly. The trick is to use the same content but from a different angle.

Here are a few ways you can re-engineer your fitness content:

  • Chop and change your content by taking lengthy videos or guides and creating new pieces from specific sections of the longer pieces.
  • Use content you’ve already written and choose a section within that video or post. Now, create a new piece that speaks to that section in more detail. Now you’ve made two pieces from the same knowledge set.

Fitness Content Topic Ideas

Now that we’ve seen some fitness coach best practices for content creation – let’s look at a few topic ideas you can use for your next content calendar planning session.
